Abdomen Lifting (Abdominoplasty)
The abdominal region is the most influenced place after losing too much weight and after pregnancies. Stretch marks and hangings are possible in the abdominal region. Diastase (becoming loose of muscles) is seemed on most of the patients. In this case the treatment will be abdominoplasty surgery. Generally this surgery is combined with the liposuction.
Who can have abdominoplasty surgery?
If you have too much unneeded fat or skin after pregnancy and losing too much weight and if you cannot get rid of it by doing sports, you can be a suitable candidate.
Before the surgery, there are some important points you should share with your plastic surgeon:
(*) Your wishes
(*) Whether having any disease
(*) If you smoke
(*) If you use any kinds of medicine permanently
If you want to have the right result from this surgery, you should be in your ideal weight.
You should stop smoking at least three weeks ago and you should stop taking blood thinners and drinking herbal tea before the surgery.
The abdominoplasty surgery is applied by the plastic surgeon under general anesthesia nearly in 3 hours. There are two types of abdominoplasty surgeries: whole abdominoplasty or mini abdominoplasty. For most of the patients liposuction is applied to waist area and belly. The plastic surgeon makes a cut ( it is longer than the caesarean cut) under the belly, then the sagging skin under the navel is taken; if there are diastase on the muscles, we use a technique called inside corset to tighten muscles. The navel is given a new proper shape ( younger looking). After the surgery, two drains take the blood out and a corset is dressed up to the patient.
In the mini abdominoplasty surgery is applied to the patient who has surplus only under belly, the navel’s place is not changed, only a small surgery scar stays compared to normal abdomen lifting.
After the surgery
The patients feel strain in their belly, this is quite normal, therefore in the first days it is suggested to walk leaning forward. Generally it is enough to stay only one night at the hospital but as occasion requires patients may stay two days at the hospital. A couple of pain is normal but these process can be reduced by using some pain killers.
It is suggested to use the corset for six weeks. Generally patients can continue to their daily life in a week or in ten days, patients can start walking two weeks after, but they can start doing sports six weeks later.
